Garrison Fewell Guitar
Renowned for his mature, melodic sound and elegant, lyrical style of writing, guitarist Garrison Fewell has established himself as a distinctive voice throughout his 30-year career. Critics have called him "one of today’s most personal guitar players" (Boston Phoenix), "an assured stylist with a strong sense of tradition" (The New Yorker), "a player of virtuosity and swinging intensity" (UPI), and "refined, passionate, and inspiring" (Guitar Player).
As a leader, Garrison has performed at NYC's Blue Note and Birdland Jazz Clubs, and toured in the US, South America, Africa, Caribbean, Canada and Europe. He has played at major jazz festivals such as Montreux, North Sea, Umbria, Clusone, Copenhagen, Krakow, Budapest, Cape Verde, and Asuncion, Paraguay.
Garrison's award-winning recordings feature artists such as John Tchicai, Fred Hersch, George Cables, Jim McNeely, Steve LaSpina, Cecil McBee and Roy Campbell Jr., and he has performed with Benny Golson, Billy Harper, Herbie Hancock, Don Friedman, Buster Williams, Cameron Brown, Tal Farlow, Larry Coryell, Cecil Bridgewater, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Zbigniew Namyslowski, Steve Grossman, Hal Galper, Jay Clayton, Tim Hagans, Dusko Goykovich, Jimmy Owens, Khan Jamal, Nikki Isles, Tina May and Slide Hampton.
An internationally respected jazz educator, Fewell has been a Professor at Boston’s Berklee College of Music since 1977 and has given clinics at more than 40 European conservatories, authored three jazz textbooks, his latest Jazz Improvisation for Guitar - A Melodic Approach is on Berklee Press, and writes lessons for Guitar Player, Guitar Club, Chitarre and Axe magazines.
Garrison is an active performer in both European and New York jazz scenes.
